Extractive industries extract or draw out various products from natural resources such as earth, soil, water, etc. Examples of extractive industries are farming, mining, fishing, hunting, lumbering, oil extraction, etc. The products of such industries are either consumed directly (fish as food) or used as raw material for other categories of industry (e.g. iron ore used in steel industry). These industries have the following distinctive features:
