Question
Calculate the temperature whose value is the same on the Celsius and Fahrenheit scale?

Answer

Let the required temperature in both the scales be x.
i.e., $\text{C}=\text{F}=\text{x}$
Now $\frac{\text{C}}{100}=\frac{\text{F}-32}{180}$
$\therefore\frac{\text{x}}{100}=\frac{\text{x}-32}{180}$
$180\text{x}=100\text{x}-3200$
$80\text{x}=-3200$
$\Rightarrow\text{x}=-40$
- 40ºC is equivalent to - 40ºF.
