Average and relative velocities are two entirely different things. The average velocity of a body is the (total distance travelled) (the time taken), regardless of its velocity at any particular time or position during its travel. An object’s relative velocity at any point in time is the velocity of the body at that point in time as measured by an observer. The relative velocity is entirely dependent on the observer who measures it, and the measured velocity is termed the “velocity relative to the observer”.
