Question
Define crystal field stabilization energy. (CFSE).

Answer

It is defined as the energy difference of electronic configurations in the ligand field $\left(E_{L F}\right)$ and the isotropic field / barycentre $\left(E_{i s o}\right)$
$\operatorname{CFSE}\left(\Delta E _0\right)=\left\{ E _{ LF }\right\}-\left\{ E _{ iso }\right\}$
$\left.=\left\{\left[ n _{ t 2 g }-(0.4)+ n _{ eg }(0.6)\right] \Delta_0+n_{ p } P \right]- n _{ p }^{\prime} P \right\}$
Where,
$n _{ t 2 g }=$ the number of electrons in $t _{t \prime}$ orbital.
$n _{ eg }=$ the number of electrons in $n$ orbital
$n_p=$ number of electron pairs in the ligand field.
$n _{ p }^{\prime}=$ number of electron pairs in the iso tropic field.
