Answer
The west coast plain of India is spread from Gujarat up to Kerala. It is wider only in Gujarat and is much narrow in other regions. → In Maharashtra and Goa, It is known as Konkan and to the south of Goa it is called Malabar. → The Konkan plain is very undulating due to many smaller hills. At some places it is extremely narrow. → Major rivers meeting the sea on the western coast are Narmada and Tapi. There are many small rivers. → Rivers on the western coast have wider estuaries. Most of these estuaries are the valleys submerged into rivers and the sea water. Such estuaries are useful for fishery and for the development of ports. → There are many natural ports along the western coast. These include Mumbai and Marmagoa (Mudgao). → Saline water lakes (Lagoons) are formed in the backwaters of Kerala. These are known as 'Kayal' locally. → Besides, depositional landforms like sand bars and narrow spits are also noteworthy.
