Positive functions:

  • Certain values, attitudes and beliefs projected through media are also imbibed by them.

Criticism:
  • It encourages escapism.
  • It leads to passivity and distracts people from serious matters of life.
  • It kills individual tastes and leads to cultural homogenization.
  • It uses female gender to sell products through advertisements.
  • It presents a false picture of reality.
