Question
Do you agree that RTI serves to redress consumer grievances?

Answer

The right to information about the functioning of the Governments at the Centre and in the states, including the bodies functioning under them, were brought under the purview of an Act in 2005. This has brought a lot of accountability and transparency in their functioning.
However, for the redressal of consumer grievances, the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 has the required proviso which enables the aggrieved consumer to approach the jurisdictional authorities under its purview for resolution.
