Yes, Dr Herriot was a pragmatic person. He was sensible enough to recognise Tricki's greed for food. He was highly practical. He knew that it was difficult for Mrs Pumphrey to part with the dog. So, he advised her that Tricki must be hospitalised under his supervision for a fortnight. It was necessary to save him. He was a clever person and was tempted to keep Tricki on as a permanent guest. Actually, he was enjoying best of both the worlds.
