Question
Explain any four drawbacks that the women entrepreneurs face in India.

Answer

The following are some of the limitations faced by women entrepreneurs in India:
  1. Patriarchal society: Indian society is predominantly male-dominated. Women are considered to be a burden for a family rather than an asset. This gender bias limits the growth of women in India.
  2. Lack of opportunities: There is a general lack of social infrastructure in our country. Even today, in many areas of our country, there is a lack of educational facilities. The condition of female education is still worse. This lack of education stands as a barrier in their progress. This challenge can be overcome by initiating focused programmes for female education which will enhance their skills and enable them to work.
  3. Enabling technologies for women: There is a need to create more opportunities regarding new methods of production, marketing and other modern technologies and special programmes should be launched to familiarise women with these technologies and methods. This lack of knowledge, pertaining to new technology is a major cause hindering the growth of women entrepreneurs.
  4. Lack of opportunities in organised sector: The skilled women work more in the unorganised sector, where they are forced to work on minimum wages with no social security benefits. If the women are educated and are aware of all the government schemes, they would be able to join the organised sector and also be a leader in it.
