✓
Answer
The credit for the invention of the radio goes to the Italian scientist Marconi. He invented radio in 1921.
The first radio station was established in England.
After this, Akashvani has gradually developed.
Radio broadcasting in India started in 1923 with a private broadcast in Mumbai called 'Club Radio'.
Transmission of information was started in 1927 by state-owned transmitters at Mumbai and Kolkata.
Both these transmitters were taken over by the government in 1930 and started broadcasting under the name 'Bharatiya Prasar Seva' ('Indian Broadcasting Service').
It was renamed 'All India Radio' in 1936 and has been known as 'Akashvani' since 1957.
Akashwani is managed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
At present, Akashwani has a total of 187 radio broadcasting stations and 180 radio transmitters in India.
This radio network covers 96 per cent of India's population and is spread over 83 per cent of the country.
Akashwani programs include plays based on novels and short stories.
Apart from this, original plays related to the prevention of various social evils are also aired.
The news broadcast on the airwaves is very important. News broadcast in English, Hindi and regional languages has national, international, regional and local significance.
Rural programs and family programs are broadcast from every station of Akashwani.
Apart from this, programs related to adult education, role of Panchayats in rural development, programs related to rural women and children, mother and child care, environmental protection, family welfare etc. are broadcast.
Programs related to national and international games and competitions played at home and abroad are broadcast.
Airwaves is a huge medium for mass broadcasting. It can reach a large part of the population at the same time at low cost and effectively.
Where transportation and communication facilities are limited. The radio can reach there.
Thus, radio is an important means of entertainment and information.
