Emperor Harshavardhana was a Shaivite like his ancestors.
 
It had the symbol of Nandi on its seal.
Later, his devotion to Buddhism grew due to his elder brother Rajyavardhan's interest in Buddhism and the help of Buddhist monk Divakarmitra in finding Rajshree.
