- Our body reacts to certain types of stress in three stages.
(A) Warning phase: In this phase, the body's sympathetic nervous system is activated to meet the challenge.
- E.g. If you come across a wild animal, you will try to avoid it, so the adrenal glands, epinephrine and nor epinephrine hormones in the body will increase and as a result the person's strength will increase, muscle cramps, sensitivity to appearance will decrease, blood supply to the stomach will decrease and blood pressure will increase.
- Which will result in attempts to confront or escape from the person or animal.
- This is how a person reacts to most of the emotions that come in life.
(B) Resistance phase: In this phase the body tries to adjust to or resist the inevitable stress.
- This phase continues the physical changes of the warning phase but weakens the body in coping with other loads.
- E.g. If a person is suffering from cancer, if he is facing it, he easily becomes a victim of depression.
- At this stage, the person may experience mechanical fatigue - feeling tired and anxious all the time, not getting enough sleep, sometimes the person resorting to addictions to get rid of it, memory loss due to excessive fatigue etc.
(C) Stage of Fatigue: In this stage, the person who experiences weakness manifests himself to be overly anxious, becomes physically and mentally broken, becomes depressed, becomes mentally retarded, loses his physical capacity, increases the likelihood of physical problems and eventually suffers from illness.
- Prolonged stretching of the muscles increases the risk of headaches or neck pain, high blood pressure, digestive problems and mental illness.
