The sense of smell or odor produced by various chemical stimuli in the external environment is transmitted through the olfactory nose.
As the olfactory nerves are stimulated by two narrow tubes inside the nose, its nerve flow reaches the base of the cerebral cortex of the large brain. And odor sensation is experienced.
If the odor emanating from any chemical substance is gradually reduced the sensitivity to the perceived substance is gradually reduced.
Henning has given six types of odors.
(1) Odor of burning object (2) Odor of spice (3) Odor of rotten object (4) Odor of resin (5) Odor of ether (6) Odor.
