Explain the term : Landslide

(1) The rocks on the mountain slopes are disintegrated due to the forces of denudation, fissures develop in them and the rocks are broken into fragments. Those fragments which are on the gteep slopes fall down abruptly due to the force of gravitation. This event is called ‘Landslide’.
(2) Torrential rain and earthquake, etc. accelerate such events. Landslides occur very frequently in Himalayas and Purvanchal region.
