Answer

During the $17^{\text {th }}$ and $18^{\text {th }}$ centuries in European countries as literacy and schools spread there was a virtual reading mania.
i. People wanted books to read. Therefore, publishers produced books in increasing numbers.
ii. Booksellers employed pedlars, who carried little books for sale. There were almanacs or mutual calenders, along with ballads and folk tales.
iii. In England, penny chapbooks were sold for penny to the poor in the villages.
iv. In France, were the Bibliotheque Bleue', which were low priced small books printed on poor quality paper, and bound in cheap blue covers.
v. Then these were the romances, printed on four to six papers. Books were of various sizes, serving many different purposes and interests.
vi. The periodical press developed from the early $18^{\text {th }}$ century, combining information about current affairs with entertainment. Newspapers and journals carried information about wars and trade, as well as news of developments in other places.
