Earthing is the proper connection of the exposed metal parts of an electric circuit to the ground. It is accomplished by thick copper wires its application is as follows.
$i.$ It protects the appliances and the human beings in case of insulation fail or accidental short circuit.
$ii.$ It acts as the circuit breaker when the live wire touches the earth wire, and a large current flows through it.
$iii.$ Lightning conductor uses Earthing During lightning metal rod is connected to the heavy metal plate to protect the building and people inside it from the electric discharge as shown in the figure below.
