The North Indian plain is situated to the south of northern mountainous region. This plain is formed by the alluvium deposit by large rivers like Ganga, Satluj, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, etc. and their tributaries which originate from the Himalayas. This is a flat plain so the soil here is very fertile. Thus, there is more agricultural production. It is the most prosperous and densely populated region of India.
