The king of pigeons, Chitragriva - चित्रः ग्रीवः यस्य सः - the one whose neck is multi-coloured (बहुविही समास). This pigeon is the main character of a fable of the 'Hitopadesh' written by Narayan Pandit. He is the king of pigeons. He advises the pigeons attracted by rice grains to not go down. He warns them to beware of danger caused by greed. In the end, he also gives courage to his family trapped in the net and advises them to fly all together along with the net. With the help of his friend, the king of mice he frees all the pigeons. Thus, with calmness and courage along with uniting his family he achieves the goal.
