Cyanobacteria:
  • They are unicellular, colonial or form trichomes.

  • They have a pigment, c-phycocyanin, that gives them the characteristic blue-green colour.
  • Some of them can fix atmospheric nitrogen in the specialised cells, called heterocysts.
