Pollution means adding to the environment, substances that are harmful and not required. It is a global problem today. There are different types of pollution- noise, air, water, land and space. Rapid and unplanned urbanisation and industrialisation have caused pollution. Land pollution takes place due to use of harmful chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Water pollution is caused by sewage and effluents thrown into water bodies. Air pollution is caused by smoke and harmful gases. Noise pollution has increased due to factories and vehicles. Pollution has caused the depletion of the ozone layer and usage of mineral coal and oil has led to its near exhaustion Global warming has increased the temperature on the earth and created an imbalance in the environment leading to change of seasons, unseasonal rains, melting of ice and overflowing of water bodies, submergence of islands and coastal areas. We must take firm and quick steps to fight pollution by growing trees and using renewable source of energy.
