A composite matter made of one or more elements is called 'Rock' (According to Geologists, all solid matter on the crust of the earth is a 'Rock Rocks have a very solid form and it may be very soft as well. Rocks can be porous or non-porous and can be heavy or light in weight. Different types of rocks are formed due to different processes. Generally the rocks do not have a specific chemical composition. Mostly these are composed of more than one mineral.
On the basts of their formation process, rocks can be divided into three categories. These are:
(1) Igneous Rocks
(2) Stratified or Depositional Rocks
(3) Metamorphic Rocks
