Chondrocytes are the only cells found in cartilage. They produce and maintain the cartilaginous matrix, which consists mainly of collagen and proteoglycans. The chondrocytes lie between the muscle dfibres. It is found in the epiglottis (part of the larynx) and the pinnae (the external ear flaps of many mammals including humans).
