MCQ
Tischenko reaction is a modification of
  • A
    Aldol condensation
  • B
    Claisen condensation
  • Cannizzaro reaction
  • D
    Pinacol-pinacolon reaction

Answer

Correct option: C.
Cannizzaro reaction
c
Tishchenko reaction is a modification of canizzaro's reaction. This reaction involves disproportionation of an aldehyde lacking a hydrogen atom in the alpha position in the presence of an alkoxide. The reaction product is an ester. catalysts are aluminium alkoxide or sodium alkoxide.

In cannizzaro's reaction the base is sodium hydroxide and the oxidation product is a carboxylic acid and the reduction product is an alcohol.
