$\text{x}\times\text{y}=\text{y}\times\text{x}$
$\text{x}=2,\text{y}=\frac{7}{-8}=\frac{7\times(-1)}{-8\times(-1)}=\frac{-7}{8}$
$\text{L.H.S.}=\text{x}\times\text{y}=2\times\frac{-7}{8}=\frac{2\times(-7)}{8}$
$=\frac{-7}{4}$
$\text{R.H.S.}=\text{x}\times\text{y}=\frac{-7}{8}\times2=\frac{-7}{4}\times1=\frac{-7}{4}$
$\therefore\text{L.H.S.}=\text{R.H.S.}$
