Measurement means the comparison of an unknown quantity with some known quantity Suppose you want to measure the length of your classroom. Here the length of your classroom is an unknown quantity and the length of the metre scale used to measure the length of the classroom is a known quantity In order to measure the length of the room, we will start from one end of the room and will measure the entire length to the other end. If the length of the room was $8$ scales, we conclude that the length of the room is $8$ metres. Here $8$ is the measurement and metre is the unit. This way we measure unknown quantities using known quantities.
