What is a phasor diagram? Illustrate it with an example.

Answer

What is a phasor diagram? Illustrate it A diagram that represents a phasor is called phasor diagram. Consider an alternating emf e = $e_0 \sin \omega t$. The phasor representing it is inclined to the horizontal axis at an angle cot and rotates in an anticlockwise direction as shown in below figure.with an example.

The length $( OP )$ of the arrow $\overrightarrow{ OP }$ represents the peak value (maximum value), $e_0$, of the emf. For $e=e_0 \sin \omega t$, the projection of $\overrightarrow{ OP }$ on the $y$-axis gives the instantaneous value of the emf.
In above figure, $O R=e_0 \sin \omega t$.
For e $=0 \sin \omega t$, the projection of $\overrightarrow{ OP }$ on the $x$-axis gives the instantaneous value of the emf. In above figure, $O Q=e_0 \sin \omega t$.
Phasor diagrams are useful in adding harmonically varying quantities.
