Bagging technique is used for artificial hybridization. In this technique, anthers are removed with the help of forceps, from the flower bud before dehiscence (in besexual flowers) and then is covered with a bag (generally made up of butter paper or very thin paper) of suitable size in order to prevent stigma. from the contamination with undesired pollen The removal of anther from flower is called emosculation and the covering of flower with a bag is called bagging.
After removing the bag mature pollen from desired male plant is dusted on the receptive stigma and then the flower is re-bagged again to avoid the contamination of the flower buy any other pollen grain. The flower is allowed to develop int a fruit.
This technique is used for growing commercially hybrid crops moreover this techniquie is used in artificial hybridization to grow disease-free, insect free and high yeilding crops.
