$1.$ Introduction:
  • Development during planning agriculture development has been divided in to two parts:
$(1)$ Period before green revolution:
  • Where agriculture development was basically the growth in agricultural production.
$(2)$ Period after green revolution:
  • Where farm development in the result of use of technology.
  • Use of new technology of agriculture started from the year $1960-61$ at seven districts of India as “Pilot Project”.
  • This was initially known as $IADP ($Intense Agricultural District Program$)$ that means intensive agricultural program for districts.
  • Due to wonderful success with passing of time it was applied to whole nation.
  • When it was implemented to nation this was known as $HYVP ($High Yielding Varieties Program$)$ that means program of high yield products which is also known as green revolution.
  • It is also known as modern agricultural technology programmed or Programmed of seeds, fertilizer and water technology.
$2.$ Meaning of Green Revolution:
  • Modern agriculture uses modern inputs like hybrid seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, new machines of agriculture, irrigation.
  • Due to use of these modern inputs agricultural production increases intensively.
  • This was known as Green Revolution.
  • In India Green Revolution is seen in two phases $1966-67$ to $1982-83$ is the first phase where green revolution was exported and even the materials were exported and its use was in limited areas and limited crops.
  • Whereas in second phase of Green Revolution most of the technology adopted is Indian.
$3.$ The factors $($components$)$ of Green Revolution:
  • Green Revolution is a package which includes the following:
$(1)$ Hybrid Seeds:
  • After testing the soil, checking climate conditions and arranging irrigation facility the improved seeds were selected.
  • New hybrid seeds are researched and used.
$(2)$ Chemical Fertilizer:
  • Many elements of land get used up due to continues farming on the land With the use of manure and chemical fertilizers the required elements are added to the land which holds its productivity and also helps to increase the productivity.
  • There are $2$ types of manure $(1)$ Organic Manure. Chemical fertilizers have a vital role in the growth of Green Revolution.
$(3)$ Pesticides:
  • To make better impact after use of improved seeds and chemical fertilizer the use of pesticide is very important.
  • It protects the crop from insects and pests.
$(4)$ Irrigation:
  • The pre condition of Green Revolution is Irrigation.
  • For continuous farming irrigation is inevitable.
  • Along with chemical fertilizer, hybrid seeds and pesticides the use of irrigation in proper quantity and proper time is must irrigation includes Well, Tube well Lakes and Dams.
$(5)$ Mechanization:
  • The use of machines in agriculture is known as mechanization.
  • The use of machines while sowing and cutting makes agriculture process easy and fast.
