Question
What is hydroelectricity? Explain the basic principle of generation of hydroelectricity with the help of a labelled diagram.

Answer

The electricity generated from hydro power plant is known as hydro electricity. Water is collected in a reservoir at a height, so the water has potential energy stored in it. When the water flows down through this large height, its potential energy gets converted into kinetic energy. The fast flowing water rotates the turbine which is connected to generator through its shaft. The generator produces electricity.

Mita observed that her grandmother was preparing a family tree. On enquiring why it was done, she explained that it was necessary to know our roots as we have inherited many traits from our ancestors. Four metals P, Q, R and S are all obtained by the reduction of their oxides with carbon. Metal P is used to form a thin layer over the sheets of metal S to prevent its corrosion. Metal Q is used for electroplating tiffin boxes made of metal S whereas metal R is used in making car batteries. Metals Q and R form an alloy called solder. What are metals P, Q, R and S?
