What is meant by the lower and upper fixed points of a thermometer?

Lower point of a thermometer is the temperature at which ice starts melting at normal atmospheric pressure i.e. $0^oC$
Upper point of a thermometer is the temperature at which water just starts boiling at normal atmospheric pressure i.e. $100^oC.$
