Shifting Agriculture is done in dense forests regions. Many tribes cut trees in half to allow sunlight to reach the ground. They would clear forest land of all grass in order to farm. Next, they would burn the cut trees and grass and scatter the ashes on the open ground and did farming on that land. Since ashes contain potash, the land would become fertile. When the fertility of that land decreased after the first crop, they would leave the area and move to a new region. They would cultivate crops in the new place in the same way once again. This type of farming is known as Shifting Agriculture.
