Shifting cultivation involves clearing of land by felling of trees and burning them. Then, the ashes remained are mixed with soil to grow crops like maize and potatoes. After the soil loses its fertility, the land is abandoned and a new land is cleared. 
The disadvantages of shifting cultivation are as follows 
→ It leads to large extent of deforestation. 
→ It leads to soil erosion and soil loss. 
→ It makes the land infertile.
