The energy obtained from the sun is known as the solar energy.

It's importance can be understood by the following points:

  1. Solar energy does not cause environmental problems as it is pollution free.
  2. India has enormous possibilities of tapping solar energy.
  3. It is becoming popular in rural and remote areas of India. Thus, it will be able to minimise the dependence of rural households on firewood and dung cake.
