Question
What is translation? Describe the translation process with diagram.

Answer

Translation is the process by which the sequence of bases in mRNA is used to direct the polymerisation of amino acids to form a polypeptide chain (protein).
Process :
1. Initiation : The ribosome attaches to the mRNA at the start codon (AUG).
2. Elongation : Amino acids are added one by one as per the mRNA codons, and peptide bonds are formed between them.
3. Termination : The process ends when the ribosome reaches a stop codon (UAA, UAG, or UGA), releasing the newly formed protein.
