Mr. Lamb was an old man who lived in a big house with an unkempt garden in which he grew crab apples along with flowers, grass and weeds. He lived all alone and his house had no curtains as the old man liked to feel the light and darkness. He had a tin leg as his leg was severed in a war. Derry was a fourteen year old boy with an acid burned face. He was walking past Mr. Lamb's garden and he thought it was an empty house and garden so he climbed over the garden wall and went in.
