Dantidurga was a Rashtrakuta chief in Deccan. Initially, Rashtrakutas were the subordinates of Chalukyas of Karnataka.
Dantidurga became a Kshatriya after performing a ritual called hiranya-garbha. It literally means the 'golden womb'. This ritual was performed with the help of Brahmanas. It was thought to lead to the rebirth of the sacrificer as a Kshatriya, even if he was not by birth.
