What to produce, how to produce and for whom to produce are the problems related to allocation of resources in an economy. These arise because resources are scarce and have alternative uses. The economy has to decide on how much of the many possible goods and services it will produce. It has to decide whether to use more labour or more machines. It has also to decide about the distribution of goods among individuals.
