Question
Why Hunsdiecker reaction is not suitable for making alkyl iodide?

Answer

In Hunsdiecker reaction, when RCOOAg is reacted $I _2$, ester is obtained as the main product in place of alkyl iodide. Therefore, this reaction is not suitable for making alkyl iodide.
$
2 RCOOAg+I_2 \longrightarrow RCOOR+CO_2+2 AgI
