Sitting under a peepal tree at Bodhigaya, he started sadhana for attaining truth and enlightenment. After many days of sadharta he got knowledge on the day of Vaishakhi Purnima. After attaining knowledge, he became Buddha from Siddhartha. ‘Buddha’ means conscious or wise. Later on, he was called Gautam Buddha.
