Question
With the help of an example, differentiate between incomplete dominance and co-dominance.

Answer

Incomplete dominanceCo-dominance
(1) Effect of one of the two alleles is more conspicuous The effect of both the alleles is equally con- spicuous
(2) It produces a fine mix- ture of the expression of two alleles. There is no mixing of the effect of the two al- leles.
(3) The effect in hybrid is intermediate of the expression of the two alleles, e.g. flower col- our in Mirabilis jalapa Red, Pink, ans white Both the alleles produce their effect independent- ly, e.g. AB blood group.
(4) Alleles show quantita- tive effect. One dom- inant allele produces half and two dominant alleles produce full phenotype. There is no quantitative effect of the alleles.
