The Sun temple at Konark is situated in Puri district, near the Bay of Bengal, in Odisha.
It was constructed during the reign of king Nrusinhvarman I of Gurh dynasty in the 13th century.
It depicts the chariot of Sun God drawn by seven horses. It has twelve massive wheels that represent twelve months in a year. Each wheel has eight spokes which represent eight prahars of the day.

This temple was built by using black stone.Hence it is popularly known as 'Black Pagada'.
