The mamlatdar is the administrative head of the taluka level. The Mamlatdar is selected by the promotion or examination conducted by $G.P.S.C. -$ State Public Service Commission examination. He is the revenue head of a taluka which is made up of an average group of $50$ or more villages. As an executive Magistrate, he is directly responsible to the collector for the maintenance of law and order.
The functions done by mamlatdar are to prepare voter lists for local self government elections and conduct elections, to provide various types of certificates and to manage and control midday meal plans, to perform relief and rescue operations at the time of natural disasters.
