  • Russia was ruled for over 300 years in autocratic manner by the Tsars of Romonov dynasty.

  • The Tsar’s army opened fire on the unarmed protest march (wrongly given as rally in the (textbook) led by Father Gapon on 22nd January, 1905. This event is described as ‘Bloody Sunday
  • Mighty Russia was defeated by Japan, a small Asian nation in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05)
  • In order to pacify the people, Duma – the Russian Parliament was summoned. Its inability to conduct business led to its dissolution.
  • The workers in Petrograd went on strike on8th March, 1917. The Tsar’s army refused to shoot at the striking workers.
  • Tsar abdicated the throne and provisional government was formed by Kerensky, the Menshevik leader. This event was the first phase of the Russian Revolution.
  • The Bolsheviks, led by Lennin overthrew the provisional government and captured power in November, 1917. This event is described as the Bolshevik Revolution.
  • Thereby the first ever socialist government put into practice the philosophy (wrongly described as propaganda in the textbook) of Karl Marx.
