The significant events of the First World War are as follows:
→ The First World War started with Austria declaring war on Serbia on Ist August, 1914.
→ The War between Austria and Serbia assumed the form of a World War on 1st August. 1914.
24 nations were on the side of the Allied Powers and 4 on the side of the Central Powers (Wrongly given as Axis Powers in the textbook).
→ Initially Germany made note-worthy progress.
→ Russia withdrew from the war in 1917 after the Bolshevik Revolution.
→ As German submarines had sunk an American steamer 'Lusitania' and 147 American passengers  died: America declared war on Germany on 14th April. 1917.
→ Bulgaria surrendered in September 1918, followed by Turkey, Austria-Hungary in October 1918.
→ German Emperor Kaiser William II abdicated the throne in November 1918.
→ Germany surrendered unconditionally; signed 'Cease-Fire Treaty' with the Allied powers on 11th November, 1918 and thereby the First World War came to an end.
