2. Establishment of the Communist government in China: China and many other nations in the world were impressed by the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in 1917.
→ Japan was defeated in the Second World War and its control over China had slackened.
→ The Communist Revolution took place in China under the leadership of Mao-Tse-Tung. The Communist Party established its rule on mainland China on 1st October. 1949.
3. Cold War: The USA (America) and the USSR (Russia) emerged as the superpowers at the end of the Second World War.
→ The ideological conflict between these two led to the formation of the capitalist and the communist blocs. Many small nations Joined either of these blocs out of fear.
→ The ideological conflict, the war of words and the race for nuclear armaments created a tense situation around the world, which is described as the 'Cold War'.
4. Establishment of the United Nations: In order to maintain world peace, collective security and peaceful co-existence, the United Nations was established on 24th October, 1945.
