Question
Write the equation of the line through the points $(1, –1)$ and $(3, 5)$

Answer

We know that,
$y-y_{1}=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}\left(x-x_{1}\right)$
Here $x_1 = 1, y_1 = – 1, x_2 = 3$ and $y_2 = 5.$
$y-(-1)=\frac{5-(-1)}{3-1}(x-1)$
or $ –3x + y + 4 = 0.$
which is the required equation.
