Answer
View full question & answer→The foundation of the Internet was laid with the conception of "Network" in 1969 under the supervision of the DARPA (Defence and Advanced Research Projects Agency). The name of the initial network was the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). After this beginning, computer networks started getting built in and around the USA. In the early to mid 1970's additional networks besides ARPA net came into being. ALOHA net, a satellite network linking together universities on the Hawailan islands, Telenet, Tymnet and Transpac, a French network came into existence. Pioneering work on interconnecting networks (once again under the sponsorship of DARPA), in essence creating a network of networks, was done by Vinton Cerf and Robert E. Kahn. The term "internetting" was coined to describe this work.
