There are many festivals celebrated with great joy. Diwali is my favourite festival. It comes in the month of October or November. It is the biggest festival of the Hindus. It is the festival of lights. Before this festival everyone cleans their houses. People buy new clothes. They decorate their houses with colourful lights. They buy crackers. Women make delicious sweets and lots of items to eat. The children enjoy fire crackers on the roads. The next day of Diwali is the New Year Day. People go to temples. They meet their relatives and friends. They send greeting cards. In short, people celebrate this festival with great joy, so I like it much.

First of all, planting trees should be given massive attention. Above all, a tree is the source of oxygen. Unfortunately, due to construction, many trees have been cut down. This certainly reduces the amount of oxygen in the environment. Growing more trees means more oxygen. Hence, growing more trees would mean better life quality. Similarly, people must give attention to forest conservation. Forests are vital for the Environment. However, deforestation certainly reduces the area of forests around the World. The government must launch programs to conserve the forests. The government must make harming forests a criminal offense. Soil conservation is yet another important way to save the Environment. For this, there must be control of landslides, floods, and soil erosion. Furthermore, there should also be afforestation and tree plantation to conserve the soil. Also, terrace farming and using natural fertilizers are some more ways. Waste management is a powerful way of protecting the environment. There must be proper disposal of wastes. Most noteworthy, this would help to keep the surroundings healthy. The government must ensure to clean the streets and other polluted land areas. Furthermore, there should be toilets in every house. Also, the government must provide enough public toilets. Pollution is probably the biggest danger to the Environment. Smoke, dust, and harmful gases cause air pollution. These causes of air pollution come from industries and vehicles mostly. Furthermore, Chemicals and pesticides cause land and water pollution.

Uttarayan is the most popular festival in Gujarat. On this day the sky Is filled with colourful kites. There are kites of various sizes and shapes. The terraces are full of people, young and old. Everybody enjoys flying kites and cutting the strings of other kites. There is lots of cheering and shouting all around. Some people also play music on tape-recorders. There is joy and happiness everywhere. People enjoy eating the traditional delicacies like tal-sankali, undhiyu and jalebi. It is a day of great fun.

The winter is the first season of the year. It begins in November and ends in February. It is a very pleasant season. The air is cool and fresh. The days are shorter and the nights are longer. It is very cold in winter. We wear woolen clothes like sweaters, shawls, scarf and mufflers to keep ourselves warm. We like to sit in the sun. In winter some people take exercise or play games. We remain fresh throughout the day. We get plenty of fresh vegetables. Farmers harvest wheat in this season. Winter is also the time for festivals like Diwali, Christmas and Makar Sankranti.

The tiger is our national animal. It is a wild animal. It is mainly found in the jungles of Bengal. The tiger is a strong animal. It looks ferocious. It has a bright, yellow colour and black stripes. The tiger has bright shining eyes. It has padded feet. It can walk or run without making noise. The female tiger is called a tigress. The tiger is a flesh-eating animal. It hunts its prey. It hunts animals like deer, bears, etc. Sometimes the tiger enters a village and kills cattle and sheep.

The summer begins in March and ends in June. It is very hot in this season. May is the hottest month. The days are longer and the nights are shorter. In summer, it is quite cool in the morning, but it becomes very hot in the afternoon. The roads and streets are deserted in the afternoon. We like to sit under the fan. We wear thin cotton clothes. We feel very lazy. Many people go to hill stations in summer. Summer is the season for ice creams and cold drinks. It is also the season of mangoes, oranges and watermelons. Many beautiful flowers bloom in this season. The festival of Holi is celebrated in summer.

The rainy season begins in June and ends in September. The sky is full of dark clouds. It rains with thunder and lightning. We welcome rain after the summer heat. We use raincoats and umbrellas in the rainy season. The roads are full of water. Sometimes it is difficult to walk or drive a vehicle on the flooded roads. Children love to play in the rain. They make small paper boats and float them in the puddles and flowing water. The rainy season is very important for farmers. They sow seeds in this season. During the rainy season, the trees look clean and bright green. We see the rainbow in the sky.

Last week, the prize distribution function of our school was held in the assembly hail. Shri Tata, the famous industrialist was the chief guest. The hall was beautifully decorated. It was packed with students, teachers, parents and guests. The function began with a prayer. After a welcome speech by the Vice-Principal, the chief guest gave away the prizes. Jatin Desai won the Best Student award. Kiran Dave was the Best Sportsman of the Year. All the winners were cheered by those present. The chief guest congratulated the winners and praised the activities of the school. The function ended with a vote of thanks and ‘Vande Mataram’. After the function, there was a grand party for all the students.

The peacock is our national bird. It Is a very beautiful bird. It is deep blue and green in colour. It has a long neck and a crest on its bead. The peacock has small eyes and thin legs. The peacock has colourful feathers. The peacock is a graceful and charming bird. It is a messenger of rain. It calls out loudly to welcome the first showers of rain. The peacock spreads its colourful feathers arid dances. The peacock is said to be the vehicle of Goddess Saraswati. The peacock eats grain and worms. The female peacock is called a peahen.

I come from a small village called Bharatpur. It is a beautiful village. My village has a population of about a thousand. Most of the people are farmers. There are carpenters, cobblers, potters and tailors also. The houses are made of mud and bricks. The people of my village are simple and hardworking. My village has a well. There is a river, too. There is a temple of Lord Shiva near the river. There is a small market and a co-operative bank in our village. The village has a Gram Panchayat. It runs a health centre and a school. My village has good roads, transport facilities and electricity.

There are many kinds of hobbies. Collection of coins or stamps, music, painting and photography are some of them. My hobby is collecting stamps. I have collected stamps of many countries. I get stamps from friends or relatives or exchange some of my stamps for new ones. I paste all my stamps very carefully in an album. I have two albums, one for Indian stamps and the other for foreign stamps. My hobby keeps me occupied in my free time. It gives me a lot of general knowledge. I learn about the history and geography of different countries. I also learn about great leaders of the world. I get information about different birds, animals and flowers.

Gujarat is one of the most developed states in the country. The people of Gujarat are friendly and adventurous. Great national leaders like Gandhiji, Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai were born in Gujarat. Gandhinagar Is the capital of Gujarat. Gujarat has many industries and co-operative dairies. The bandhani work of Jamnagar, the patola saris of Patan and the zarl work of Surat are famous. Makar Sankranti, Navaratri and Janmashtami are some of the popular festivals. Khaman dholc.kt, undhiyu, jalebi and ganthiya are some of tasty food Items of Gujarat. Gujarat has many places of pilgrimage like a, Palitana and Ambaji. Sasan Gir, Na! Sarovar and the Rann of Kachchh are the famous wildlife sanctuaries.

Floods are a regular feature in India. Many people lose their lives and property during floods. Heavy rain causes rivers to overflow. Dams burst due to heavy rain and the waters flood the surrounding areas. Floods cause a lot of damage. Houses collapse and crops are destroyed People, birds and animals are swept away. Bridges and railway lines are also washed away. Electricity and mean’ of communication are disrupted. The affected villages are cut off from the rest of the country. Epidemics like cholera and jaundice break out. Government provides food packets, medicines and other essential things to people.

An earthquake is caused by a violent shaking of the earth’s surface. There are tremors lasting for a few seconds or a few minutes, depending on the intensity of the earthquake. At first, an earthquake makes things like utensils, beds and other household articles rattle. People start running out of the houses to save their lives. If the earthquake is of a greater intensity; houses, buildings and even dams are destroyed. Many people are buried alive under the debris. Trees and electric poles are uprooted. A very severe earthquake changes the features of earth. Islands may submerge under water. New islands also come up where there were none before. Man is helpless against earthquakes. But it can be predicted and thus, the damage can be reduced.

Dassera is celebrated on the tenth day of the ihonth of Ashwin. It is celebrated as Durga Pooja in Bengal. Dassera is celebrated hi honour of Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. On this cray Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasura. So this day is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. Every year the Ramlila is performed. Later, effigies of Ravana and Kumbhakarna are burnt. People decorate their houses with festoons made of marigold flowers. They worship their vehicles and tools. This day is considered auspicious for starting any new work, business or shifting to a new house.

Last Sunday, I went to the Somnath Mahadev temple. I bought some flowers from the vendor outside the temple. I went inside. It was very calm and peaceful there. Oil-lamps were burning brightly and the sweet fragrance of agarbattis filled the atmosphere. I offered flowers and sat in meditation for some time. The priest gave me prasad. The experience was so wonderful that I spent some more time in the temple. Soon it was time for the aarti. The sounds of drums and bells could be heard all around. It was the best time of the day.

Last week, a science fair was held in our school. There were three sections at the fair. The first was the Biology section. Many kinds of plants, stuffed birds, various kinds of snakes and insects were displayed. The second was the Physics section, which displayed models and charts showing the development In space technology Experiments on electricity and magnetism were demonstrated. The model of a robot was the centre of attraction for all. The Chemistry section displayed charts explaining various chemical reactions. The fair was organized under the guidance of the teachers and the principal. The efforts of the students were praised by all. It was entertainment with education!

It is believed that a teacher is the builder of the nation. He is a source of inspiration for his students. He molds the characters of the students. He is always a role model for his students. He is a light house that lights and awakens the souls of his students. An ideal teacher should be facilitator and a guide for his students. He is a friend, philosopher and guide for his students. His behaviour should be ideal and exemplary. He is always a master of his subject. He has sound understanding of his subject. His concepts about his subjects are always clear. He uses different, effective techniques of teaching while teaching in the classrooms. He uses technology to make his teaching more effective. He makes his subjects very interesting. He manages his class very well. He sets an example of punctuality, regularity, sincerity and honesty by his own behaviour. He always insists on discipline. He works as a mediator between the students and parents. He counsells the students and guides them properly. He plans his lessons well in advance. He should always be eager to solve the problems of his students. He is motivator for his students. An ideal teacher is always loved and respected not only by his students but also by the society.

Mother is a wonder creature of the great God. My mother is really wonderful. We are six members. Ours is a joint family. My papa, my mummy, my elder sister and me, my grand pa and grand ma all live together. I love all the members, but I love my mummy the most. She is for me, a friend, philosopher and guide. The name of my mother is Kailasben. She is about 38. She is tall, slim and good looking. She is fair skinned. She has long dark, silky hair, dark blue eyes. She always looks cheerful. She is always helpful to all the members of the family. She always tries to satisfy the needs of the family members. She looks after me and my sister very well. She is very good at cooking. She cooks delicious dishes for us. She helps me and my sister in our studies. She is really a better half of my papa. She takes good care of my grand parents. She gets up early, gets ready, offers prayer and begins her day. She remains busy the whole day. She does all the household works herself. She wants us to be good, honest and kind. She tells us stories full of morals. She shapes our careers. She never complains about her problems. She unites the family. She loves all and we all love her. I am really proud to have such a kind, generous, loving and honest mother. I salute my mother. My heart always speaks, ‘1 love you, mother.’

Poet ‘Harry Behn’ in his poem writes.“Trees are the kindest thing I know, They do no harm, they simply grow.”These lines show how important trees are in our life. They are the best friends of all living beings. Trees are the greatest blessing of God to man. Trees are man’s best friends. They give food, medicines, rubber, gum etc. Trees provide wood for fuel, furniture and buildings houses. They provide raw material for industries too. Trees help us to keep our environment clean. They take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. Trees are factories producing oxygen. Trees brings rains. They keep the temperature down. The roots of the trees prevent soil erosion and preserve the fertility of the soil. Trees give shelter to birds. Trees give everything but demand nothing. But we, people are cutting down trees thoughtlessly. If we cut trees, our existence will be in danger. Fertile land would turn into desert. To save ourselves we must save trees ‘Over best friends.’ Save the trees, they will save us.

The computer is a wonderful invention of modern science. The computer is used widely, so that we can say we live in age of computer. The four main features of a computer are speed, storage, accuracy and ability to do many different functions. It is difficult to find a field where a computer is not used. The computer can store large quantities of data. At homes, computers are used for educational purposes. They are also used to send or receive messages with the help of the internet. It is used at railway stations and at airports. The importance of. computer is decided to give computer education to the children in schools and colleges. Architects and engineers use computers to design buildings. Cartoon films are also made using computers. The space technology has progressed with the help of computers. Missiles, rockets and spacecrafts are launched with the help of computers. Satellites are controlled by computers. But remember computer is a machine, so it should be operated with care.

Last week there was a science fair in our neighbouring school. It lasted for three days. About ten schools of our area participated in it. My friends and I visited it. There was a queue as many students and their parents were visiting it. The school playground was decorated with ribbons and balloons. There were three sections at the fair - Biology section, Physics section and Chemistry section. First we visited the Biology section. Many plants and herbs were exhibited there. Some information was on the charts. The boy and girl participants were explaining the things in detail. They answered the visitor’s questions well. One school had exhibited alive snakes. The participant boy was telling the visitors about poisonous and nons poisonous snakes. Then we visited the physics section. There were many charts and model showing the development in space, communication, electricity etc. Models of a robot, a computer, a space craft etc. were displayed there. The Chemistry section was also wonderful. We learnt a log about various chemical reactions.

15th August is our Independence Day. India became free from the British rule on that day. It is our national festival. The Independence Day is celebrated with great joy all over the country. The main function is held at the Red Fort in New Delhi. The Prime Minister unfurls the National flag. Colourful programmes are arranged and our great ‘heroes and their sacrifices are remembered on that day. Schools and colleges all over the country celebrate this national festival. National flag is hoisted, National Anthem is sung and saluted with due respect. Some schools and colleges exhibit memories of our freedom struggle and freedom fighters. From early in the morning we hear patriotic songs. Some government and important buildings are illuminated with colourful lights. There is an atmosphere and feeling of pride and patriotism everywhere.

I study in Karmachari Shikshan Tirth. My school has a very good teaching staff. I like all my teachers but my favourite teacher is Mr. Trivedi. He teaches us English. He is about forty years old. He is not a very tall man, but he looks very smart. He is always well dressed. He is always smiling and cheerful. He talks sweetly to all. He has a very good method of teaching. He does not get angry if a student asks him questions during the lesson. He is patient. He wants us to master the English language. Sometimes he tells us stories. But at the same time, Mr. Trivedi is a strict teacher. He believes in discipline and hard work. Mr. Trivedi is our friend, philosopher and guide. He is loved and respected by all. He is my favourite teacher.
