After Patrick had completed his homework, he got his A's. His classmates were surprised. His teachers smiled. They were full of praise for Patrick. Patrick's parents wondered what had happened to him. He was now the model kid. He cleaned his room and did the work that must be done. He was always cheerful and never rude. He developed altogether a new attitude.

On the request of the elf, Patrick worked harder than ever before. He stayed up at nights and read a number of books to help the elf finish his homework. Thus, Patrick's homework got finally completed on the last day of school. Now, there was no homework left for the elf to do. So quietly and slyly, he slipped out the back door.

The elf pretended that he did not know all the subjects of Patrick, so doing Patrick's homework was a difficult task for him. He needed Patrick's help. He requested Patrick to bring a number of books, go through them and help him finish the homework.

The little elf agreed to do Patrick's homework. But since he did not have knowledge of those subjects, he always sought Patrick's help. Overwork fatigued him and caused swelling in his eyes.

Patrick saved a little doll from his cat. That doll was, in fact, a very small sized man, an elf. He was timid. The elf felt grateful to his saviour. In return, he promised to grant Patrick a wish. He could not say 'no' to any of Patrick's requests. He agreed to do Patrick's homework, but pretended that he did not know the answers. He was not good at many a subject. He sought Patrick's help at every step.
