Question 13 Marks
Solve the following simultaneous equations by Cramer's rule:
$4x+3y=18$; $3x-2y=5$
Answer
D = $\left|\begin{array}{cc}4 & 3 \\ 3 & -2\end{array}\right|$ $= -8-9 = -17$
Dx = $\left|\begin{array}{cc}18 & 3 \\ 5 & -2\end{array}\right|$ $= -36-15 = -51$
Dy =$\left|\begin{array}{cc}4 & 18 \\ 3 & 5\end{array}\right|$ $= 20-54 = -34$
x = $\frac{-51}{-17} = 3$, y = $\frac{-34}{-17} = 2$
